Initial Consultation and Assessment: an initial appointment involves obtaining a thorough history with a child, his/her family, and getting to generally know the patient. We will discuss worries and goals and come together in an effort to create an initial treatment plan. Typically, this will be a 90 minute appointment. Depending on what is decided together between the family and doctor at this appointment, follow-up may be just a few weeks after the initial assessment.

Medication Management: Dr. Leavitt uses evidence-based medicine as her primary approach for psychiatric medication management, with special consideration given towards use of medications that are FDA approved and viewed as the safest options possible in treating children. Effort is made to improve symptoms, while using the least medication needed. Diagnosis and targeted symptoms are discussed, and it is explained why specific medication options are being given, and others are not. Not all children and adolescents are started on medications, though, as sometimes it is preferential to try other therapeutic options prior to use of medication. Patients may be seen more frequently for follow-up, at least initially, with the initiation of medications.

Telepsychiatry: Telepsychiatry services are offered to patients in Montana, and to patients in Michigan who live a distance from the office. We are able to provide full assessment and consultation services, in addition to medication management, via telepsychiatry
